Where to stay in san juan del sur

plenty of either Quiet or lively options

Best choices, in san juan del sur and outside

San Juan del Sur is not a large town – but what we do have a lot of is plenty of accommodations. In every configuration possible. Affordable, no frills hostels? We have them. Fancy, modern hostels with the latest amenities? We have those as well.

You can choose from full-style resorts that offer activities and classes, or stay in a low-key care-free hostel on the shores of a beautiful and serene beach. Or you can try both options, one after the other – just make sure to tell your boss you won’t be coming back to the office for a while.

We’ve listed a variety of options for different budgets and tastes, both in central San Juan del Sur, and outside of it.

BEST options in the centre of TOWN

Hotel Victoriano

One of the pricier options in the centre of San Juan del Sur, Hotel Victorian boasts a solid reputation and the location is hard to beat. If you think you might enjoy eating your breakfast overlooking San Juan’s Bay, this is the place to stay.

Hotel Victoriano

One of the larger and better equipped hotels in town, Hotel Victoriano is a good compromise between price and convenience.

With a car rental office right inside the hotel’s main lobby, the beach across the street and San Juan’s numerous beach restaurants a few steps away, it’s easy to see why this hotel always has guests, while others struggle.

Stroll towards the centre of town to pass by the fruit and vegetable vendors and enjoy a freshly opened coconut. Walk in the other direction for the Fish Market, where you can grab a cup of ceviche made from the morning’s catch.

One of the higher priced hotels in town, generally between $200-$250 per night.

Hotel Estrella

Just like Hotel Victorian, Hotel Estrella is spacious and right across the street from San Juan’s main beach. What Estrella doesn’t have in luxury, it makes up in convenience and food – the bakery and coffee shop downstairs (La Tostaderia) will make your stay so much more pleasant.

Hotel Estrella

Located close to just about everything in town, Hotel Estrella’s prices are on the very affordable side. This often attracts a younger and more casual crowd, so you’ll be in good company if that’s what you’re looking for. Some reviewers insists that it’s more of a hostel than a hotel, so keep that in mind.

The Tostaderia downstairs has fantastic food, including freshly baked bread and other baked goods every morning. The hotel itself is clean, maintained and is a very good option if you want to be close to where the action is at night.

Prices per night are generally between $50-$75 per night.

Surf Town Hostel

The Hostel is clean and well taken care of, with very affordable dorm-style or family style room options. Even though the Surf Town Hostel is the lowest priced option of the three listed here, it has the highest number of positive reviews, and we think their stellar staff has something to do with it.

Surf Town Hostel

It seems that most people who end up staying at Surf Town know exactly what sort of accommodations they are looking for and leave very happy with their stay.

It definitely has more of a party atmosphere, but also more amusement, including a swimming pool and a good sized enclosed courtyard for hanging out outdoors with the other hotel guests.

The hostel is very clean, comes with a large and well-equipped kitchen and a bar with good drinks at fair prices.

The lowest priced option, with dorm or family style rooms available between $30-$70 per night.

tranquil and out of the way

BEST outside of town

The space is a different type of Hostel all-together. They have a little bit of everything you need for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay – their own work space for digital nomads, infinity pools, yoga and other types of classes, and a beautiful and natural atmosphere.

the SPACE.

The SPACE has both private and hostel type accommodations available, both reasonably affordable. Located about a 10-15 minute drive outside of San Juan’s centre and easily accessible by taxi or motorcycle.

Their newly opened work space is a fantastic and popular addition for those who need solid WIFI for work.

Dreamsea Surf Resort Nicaragua

A Little further away that the Space, you will find Dreamsea Surf Resort, enveloped in San’s Juan’s natural jungle beauty. ATV or other type of transportation is definitely recommended, as Dreamsea is a bit further out from the city.

Dreamsea Surf Resort Nicaragua

With a name like Dreamsea Surf resort, of course you will find surf lessons here. And yoga lessons, and great massages. You can choose packages of activities when you book your stay, as an all-inclusive type option.
